MICROBLADING FAQS

"WHAT IS MICROBLADING?"

Microblading, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face.

"DOES MICROBLADING HURT?"

A highly-effective, medical grade topical anesthetic cream is used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels differ from person to person. We will make every effort to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure

"CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM PREGNANT OR NURSING?"

We do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.

"HOW DOES MICROBLADING LAST?"

Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, however, they will fade over time and may need to be refreshed every 1-2 years. It all depends on your individual skin and how you take care of it.

"HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?"

For most clients, two treatments are needed, at least 5-8 weeks apart. With most procedures, the color looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients will prefer this, and not want a touch up session, while others would prefer a bolder look. At the second session, we will assess the color retention and make adjustments if needed. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly after the first session, do not worry! We can always go darker, add more density and adjust anything at your next appointment.

"HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY EYEBROW PROCEDURE?"

You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire. If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please do so at least 1 week before your appointment. If there are hairs outside the shape that need to be removed I will do so at your appointment. If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure. We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen. Do not drink any alcohol the night before or the day of your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume. If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure. It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

"HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER?"

Your brows will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal. Please follow all aftercare instructions that are provided both in person and on this website.

"HOW WILL MICROBLADING LOOK IN THE FUTURE?"

During your appointment, I will asses your skin to anticipate how pigment colors will look and fade in the future. I l also mix pigments to ensure the color blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair color. The majority of clients' cosmetic tattoos stay true to color and lighten naturally over time. There are some cases, however, where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your next appointment, we will re-assess how your body has responded to the initial color. Special formula alteration to correct the color and to prevent further color change is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a "powdered" look. This happens with all clients as the skin ages. To keep your hair strokes looking good, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1 to 2 years. Results vary with each client.

AFTERCARE

To achieve the desired result, it is crucial to be patient and follow all aftercare instructions very carefully.

  • Do not touch treatment area for 24 hours following your procedure.

  • Do not touch or pick if scabs appear.

  • No scrubbing, wiping, or scratching the treatment area.

  • Do not use any vaseline, antibiotic creams, petroleum, A&D ointment, or anything other than what is provided to you or approved by a CORE Med Spa certified esthetician.

  • Do not saturate faces in water or sweat (bath, pool, sauna, exercise etc.) for two weeks.

  • Do not expose the skin to direct sunlight (including tanning beds) for at least one month.

  • Be mindful while sleeping. Do not sleep face down on your pillow. It is also helpful to sleep with head slightly elevated for the first few nights to reduce any swelling that may occur.

  • No makeup can be worn anywhere close to the treatment area for at least two weeks following procedure. Remember:  these are open wounds at risk of infection!

  • After 24 hours, treatment area should be gently washed 2-3 times a day with warm water and a gentle cleanser, which we will provide.

  • After cleansing, apply the oil serum provided to you.

  • For lip blushing: After two weeks, it is helpful to use a lip balm with at least SPF 30 sunblock with UVA and UVB protection to prevent fading.

  • For microblading: When cleansing and moisturizing your brows, only use movement in the direction of hair growth.

Remember to schedule your touch-up appointment, which should be scheduled to occur between 4-8 weeks after the initial procedure. The touch-up procedure ensures good color saturation and provides an opportunity to fine tune the final shape and color.
